Juvic Pagunsan - Wins the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand
Laguna Phuket Golf Club played host to its second professional tour event in as many years when the Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand was held from --- 2 to 5 June 2010 with Filipino star Juvic Pagunsan cruising to a comfortable seven-stroke victory. Despite rain on the last four holes of play, Pagunsan closed with a 65 to finish 19 under par.
The 32-years-old Pagunsan came close to winning a couple of times this year on the Mercedes-Benz Tour with two top 10 finishes, but fell back in the final stages. A brilliant amateur career saw him clean up in 2005, winning the SEA games in Manila in both individual and team sections, plus the national amateur opens of the Phillipines, Thailand and Malaysia. He then exploded onto the scene the following year and was voted Asian Tour rookie of the year in 2006.
Despite a few rain delays, a fantastic week was had by all and we hope that those of you that had a chance to come along and watch the pros in action enjoyed yourselves. For those that were unable to make it, a one hour highlights program will make its way around the region via the ESPN Star Sports network.

DIRECTOR OF GOLF'S CORNER
For the second year running, Laguna Phuket Golf Club has played host to a professional golf event, the Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand which was held in the first week of June this year. For the club to be given the opportunity to provide a competitive platform for Asia's upcoming young professionals is an honour, with the support of such events being critical for the development of professional golf in the region and we hope to have a chance to do so again next year. I would like to thank all involved for the support given to this tournament which further cements Laguna Phuket as a quality host venue for professional events. Special thanks should go out to John Dux and George McCall who donated their time as the official starters for the event.
Finally, congratulations to both Jackie Bettles and Jordan Smith for their second Club Championship tiles in as many years. We now look forward to the Match Play Championships which will kick off in mid September with the Round Robin stages and finish in December with the finals. We will notify you separately about dates and entry details for this event.
I look forward to seeing you at the Club in the near future and wish you all safe travels.
